A Minute with the Board
As we are all preparing for the end-of-the-year craziness that April and May bring, I would like to share a few updates with you following the meeting of the AFA Executive Board in March. The Executive Board holds three in-person meetings each year, and for 2009 those meetings will be in March, July, and December. The membership will be updated about these meetings through the Association Update, and as a new step towards transparency, a copy of the Executive Board Meeting minutes will be placed on the website for your review and information. The minutes from the March 2009 meeting will be available to all members starting the week of April 6, 2009. >>Read President Carolyn E. Whittier, Ph.D.'s full Minute with the Board

The First 90 Days Program | Registration Now Open! The First 90 Days Program exists to assimilate first-time fraternity/sorority professionals by developing an awareness of their role in the fraternal relevance landscape, by building skills necessary for a successful transition and long-term career, and by sharing knowledge that will lead to strong connections among peers and partners. The 12-week program will complement the transition into a first, full-time campus role working with fraternities and sororities through a series of webinars, a peer-to-peer cohort experience, and guided learning and networking with AFA volunteers.
Registration: A First 90 Days registration would be the perfect graduation gift for a graduate student, professional development experience for a new hire, or resource for yourself as you begin a new position or new career. The registration form is available now.
Suggest a presenter: The First 90 Days Committee will soon be inviting presenters to conduct the seven bi-weekly webinars. Each webinar will be based on one of the eight Core Competencies for Excellence in the Profession. The First 90 Days Committee is dedicated to providing the best breadth and depth of presenter expertise while balancing experience with new voices. Please email suggestions of AFA members and partners who can provide insight into the Core Competencies for our newest professionals to Sarah Decker before April 8.

Annual Meeting Call for Content | Submission Deadline May 22
The 2009 Annual Meeting Call for Content is the Association's method of collecting program proposals, as well as identifying critical issues and presenters for the Annual Meeting in Jacksonville. It is the intent of the Educational Programs Committee to provide you with an educational experience that is constructive and meaningful.
Through the Call for Content, you can:
• Submit an individual or group program proposal for an educational program or Annual Meeting Advance (formerly known as Pre-Conference program)
• Recommend professionals, volunteers, or experts who you would like to present educational programs
• Identify critical issues, operational topics, or skills training opportunities you would like either presented in an educational program or included in the Developmental Resource Center (DRC)
The Association needs YOUR involvement to ensure the most dynamic educational programs and experiences are available at the 2009 Annual Meeting.
Complete the Call for Content by Friday, May 22.
CHIA Update | Letter of Support
The Association of Fraternity Advisors, along with many inter/national fraternities and sororities, continues to be very active in lobbying Congress for the passing of the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (CHIA), which would allow our chapters to modernize and expand our stock of student housing by permitting tax-deductible, charitable contributions to foundations to be used for grants to local house corporations.
Any university/college with structures that house fraternity and/or sorority members is a key campus that can help us with our efforts to pass CHIA through Congress. We would like our campus based fraternity and sorority professionals at a university/college with such structures to work to secure a letter of support from your University/College President and/or your Senior Student Affairs Officer. >>Read full article and sample letter

Restorative Justice: Powerful Tools for Reframing Judicial Interactions
April 29 | 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. Eastern
Restorative justice has been a popular topic among many in the fraternity and sorority field. While there are many creative and educational sanctions being used across the country by fraternity/sorority professionals and volunteers to address judicial matters, restorative justice is an entirely different way of viewing judicial interactions. This live virtual seminar will incorporate web and telephone technology to educate participants on the concept, design, and practice of restorative justice. An excellent skill-building opportunity, this virtual seminar will aid those who advise at both the community and individual chapter level.
