Don't miss your opportunity to recognize deserving colleagues for their outstanding contributions to their jobs, the Association, the profession, or the fraternal movement. Nominations for the 2007 Awards are due by July 27. All nominations must be emailed to awards@fraternityadvisors.org. The process is simple, but it depends on your participation. Please take a few moments to nominate those exceptional individuals who should be honored in 2007. You can read more about the various awards and the nomination instructions online.

Transitions
For many AFA members, May was a month of transition. Some are happy to have survived the final chaotic weeks of the spring semester/term filled with outdoor campus activities and end-of-the-semester projects and are moving into summer project mode; while others wrapped up visits to a long list of campuses and transitioned into a schedule focused on the implementation of leadership conferences or conventions. May was also a month of significant transition for AFA, especially at the Central Office.

Core Competencies
An AFA Workgroup is in the process of revising the Association’s Core Competencies for Excellence in the Profession. “Competencies” are characteristics of a professional such as knowledge, skills, attitudes, and motivations that are expressed through behavior and contribute to superior job performance. In striving to ensure that the competencies are inclusive of all AFA members, please answer the following questions:

What makes our work, as professionals and volunteers who work with fraternity and sorority members, unique? What are the most important characteristics for AFA members to have to be successful in advising fraternity and sorority students?

Please send your comments or suggestions about the Core Competencies to Jackie Isaacson.

HazingHurts1_2007 National Hazing Prevention Week
September 24-28, 2007

As a committed partner in the fight against hazing, AFA is again a national sponsor of National Hazing Prevention Week. AFA is providing members with a resource manual developed by CAMPUSPEAK to assist in planning for National Hazing Prevention Week. One manual was mailed to each campus with an AFA member in May. It’s never too late to plan an awareness raising o bservance at your campus. Visit www.NHPW.com for a wealth of information and ideas. Awareness raising resources are also available for purchase at the website, including: posters, parent brochures, DVDs of the 2007 National Hazing Symposium, case studies, and buttons. You can also order additional copies of the resource/programming guide at the site. A "student version" of the NHPW resource guide will be available for download after July 1st at the NHPW website.

NHPW offers a tremendous opportunity for fraternity and sorority leaders to come together with club leaders, student athletes, and faculty to end hazing on your campus. For more information on National Hazing Prevention Week or resource materials, call CAMPUSPEAK at 303-745-5545.
