New & Improved AFA/EBI Fraternity/Sorority Assessment | Enrollment Deadline April 30
Through the combined efforts of the members of AFA's EBI Committee and the EBI staff, the AFA/EBI Fraternity/Sorority Assessment has been updated to include questions designed to measure learning outcomes. The assessment has also been designed to link to CAS, Learning Reconsidered, and Leadership Reconsidered professional standards. The improved assessment is now a comprehensive and comparative review of the student fraternity/sorority experience. Over 95 colleges and universities have participated in the AFA/EBI Fraternity/Sorority Assessment since its inception in 2004. Annual Meeting Call for Content | Submission Deadline May 12
The 2008 Annual Meeting Call for Content is the Association's method of identifying critical issues and presenters, and collecting program proposals for the Annual Meeting in Denver. It is our intent to provide you with an educational experience that is worthwhile and meaningful. Through the Call for Content, you can:
  • Refer professionals, volunteers, or experts who you would like to present educational programs.
  • Identify critical issues, operational topics, or skills training opportunities you would like either presented or included in the Developmental Resource Center (DRC).
  • Submit an individual or group program proposal for an educational or pre-conference program.
The Association needs YOUR involvement to ensure the most valuable educational programs and experiences are presented at the 2008 Annual Meeting. Complete the Call for Content by May 12.

    AFA Director of Member Services Search | Application Deadline April 25
    AFA is seeking applications for Director of Member Services. This mid-level position provides primary leadership to membership, volunteer, and communications programs in concert with the staff, Executive Board, and volunteer leaders.     Mental Health Issues and Their Impact on Today's College Student
    April 22 | 2:00-3:30 p.m. Eastern Time

    With the consistently increasing number of students who enter college with diagnosed mental illnesses, student affairs and higher education professionals must be well equipped to be able to respond to these students' unique needs and experiences. Presenters will provide background information about some common issues surrounding mental health in the lives of college students and provide education and tools to further learning and ability to anticipate and respond to these students' needs.     Oracle | Submission Deadline May 1
    Oracle: The Research Journal of the Association of Fraternity Advisors is accepting articles for the August 2008 issue. While we have a rolling submission process, articles should be submitted by May 1 to be considered for the August issue. If you have an interest in submitting an article, please review the submission guidelines. Contact Eric Norman, Oracle Editor, if you have any questions.
     
    Perspectives | Submission Deadline May 15
    The Summer issue of Perspectives will focus on environmental initiatives for sororities and fraternities. The Editorial Board is seeking articles on this topic and in all areas related to fraternity/sorority advising. Articles must range in length from 600 words to a maximum of 2,800 words. Authors are encouraged to submit articles prior to the deadline of May 15 for an initial review. Please review the submission guidelines or contact Kurtis Foriska, Perspectives Editor, with questions.

    AFA Awards | Nomination Deadline July 25
    It's never too early to begin thinking about recognizing your colleagues and peers for their great work. Each year, AFA seeks to recognize outstanding contributions by our members in several different categories. The AFA Awards Committee invites you to submit nominations for the 2008 honors. It takes only a few minutes of your time to submit a nomination. The process relies on you! All nominations must be e-mailed by July 25. Go here for more information.

     
    Be. R.E.A.D.Y. | The First 90 Days Program
    Are you R.E.A.D.Y. for your first 90 days as a fraternity and sorority life professional? The Be. R.E.A.D.Y. program assists new fraternity and sorority advisors develop the skills and competencies necessary to be successful in the advising profession.

    2008 National Hazing Prevention Week Resource Guides Coming Soon!
    The Association of Fraternity Advisors is actively involved in many efforts to address the issue of hazing. Among these is our co-sponsorship of HazingPrevention.org's National Hazing Symposium and National Hazing Prevention Week.
     
    As a committed partner in the fight against hazing, AFA is providing one member per campus with a copy of the National Hazing Prevention Week Resource Guide. The guide should arrive in your mailbox by the end of April. We hope you find it valuable as you work with students and colleagues on your campus to raise awareness about the dangers of hazing.
