Attention Graduate Members Looking for the Perfect Job!
Calling all AFA Graduate members who are just about to graduate! Many of you are involved in a search for your first professional position right now. If you have already found a position, congratulations! If not, there are a few ways AFA can help you in this process.

Our job placement website currently has over 40 positions posted - and more are added regularly. In addition, employers who post jobs on our website have access to a résumé site that houses résumés of AFA members who are job seeking. This is a great way to gain exposure in the job market and promote yourself to potential employers.

Be sure to take advantage of these benefits, which are only available to AFA members, to give yourself an advantage over other job seeking graduate students!

(Re)Learning the Basics

May 21 | 2:00-3:30 p.m. Eastern Time
This seminar will be a good experience for both those that simply feel as though it has been a while since they studied student development theory or those that do not have a solid foundation in this topic. Thoughts on Professional Engagement
Jennifer M. Jones | AFA Vice President for Membership
As the Association enters its season of membership renewals, I could think of no reason in the world not to renew my professional membership with AFA. I also began to think about the reasons I joined in the first place, eight years ago. ...More

2008/2009 Membership Renewal
AFA's membership year is July 1-June 30. The first renewal notices will be mailed in just a few days. We hope that you continue to find value in your involvement with AFA and are planning to renew. Please share with us why you will or will not renew your AFA membership for the 2008-2009 year.

Affiliate Member Group Discount
AFA offers a discount to Affiliate members who join as a group. Affiliate members are individuals actively concerned with enhancement of the advisement of men's or women's fraternities who are not employed in full-time administrative positions by a college/university or inter/national fraternity or sorority. To take full advantage of the group discount, all members should sign up at the same time. Groups may be made up of individuals volunteering for a fraternity or sorority (Ex. the national officers of an organization) or individuals from a college or university (Ex. all the chapter advisors from a campus). An individual can only be counted in one group. Download this form to take advantage of this group discount.

Member Referral Incentives
Several AFA members have earned complimentary membership or Annual meeting registration simply by referring others to join AFA. You could be next! To complement the Affiliate Member Group Discount described above, we are making it easy for all other members to earn incentives. (Affiliate members are no longer eligible to receive incentives for recruiting other members since they can benefit from the group discount.) Go here to learn more.

AFA's Core Competencies for Excellence in the Profession
First developed in 2003, the Core Competencies for Excellence in the Profession were revised in late 2007 to better reflect the work done by all Association members. The AFA Executive Board encourages members to utilize these Core Competencies in setting professional development goals, hiring and assessing staff members and volunteers, working on AFA volunteer assignments, and reflecting on how their day-to-day and long-term work allows them to strengthen their skills in these areas. Association leaders, in turn, will work to weave the Core Competencies into all aspects of Association programs and services. The Core Competencies will continue to be reviewed every 3-5 years to ensure they remain current and applicable. If you have questions or suggestions regarding the Core Competencies, please contact Jackie Isaacson, Core Competency Workgroup Chair.
