National Hazing Symposium
In 2008, the fraternal movement was sent into shock when two university administrators were indicted on charges of aggravated hazing. While the charges were dropped, it marked the first time that university personnel were named in a criminal case. This year's National Hazing Symposium answers the question of what it may look like for fraternity and sorority professionals to stand trial for hazing incidents.

In partnership with HazingPrevention.org, this year's Symposium will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in conjunction with the Annual Meeting. Registration for the Annual Meeting is not required to participate in the Symposium. For more information and to register, click here.

National Hazing Prevention Week Photo Contest

Did your institution/organization host an amazing National Hazing Prevention Week (NHPW) event in 2007 or 2008? If so, submit a photo and a short story to the NHPW Photo Contest for an opportunity to win a cash prize and be published in HazingPrevention.org's fall newsletter. For full details, read the contest guidelines.

OUT & GREEK Leadership Conference
November 14-16 | Chicago, IL

AFA is proud to be a sponsor of The Lambda 10 Project's 2008 OUT & GREEK Leadership Conference, specifically the Advisors Professional Track. The conference will take place November 14-16 at DePaul University in Chicago, IL and is intended to provide training specifically around issues of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression in fraternities and sororities. A sample of some of the topics to be covered are GLBTQA identity and overlapping identities as members of fraternities/sororities, race, legal ramifications, spirituality, discrimination, and leadership development. Registration fees are $165 for students and $195 for advisors and are due by November 1. Much more information is provided on the conference site, www.lambda10.org/outandgreek.

The Lambda 10 Project will also be hosting a special reception with The Matthew Shepard Foundation on Wednesday, December 3, in Denver, CO. All AFA members who will be in Denver for the Annual Meeting are invited to attend. The event will feature live entertainment and occur off-site at Hamburger Mary's located at 700 E 17th Ave in Denver, CO. Bus transportation will be provided from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. from the conference hotel and is a short ride. The reception honors the 10 year observance remembering the Legacy of Matthew Shepard who was murdered in a tragic hate crime in October of 1998. Associate Member Highlight
Educational Benchmarking, Inc.

The AFA/EBI Fraternity/Sorority Assessment provides campus based fraternity/sorority administrators with an understanding of the effectiveness of their programs and evidence to guide the continuous improvement of the fraternity/sorority experience for their students and their institutions. Evidence provided by the assessment will confirm progress, demonstrate value, build credibility, and provide the perspective of comparisons with other campuses. The assessment is a comprehensive and comparative review of the student fraternity/sorority experience that suggests how to best use time and money to improve your program. Last year, the assessment was updated to include questions designed to measure learning outcomes and directly links to CAS and NASPA/ACPA Learning and Leadership Reconsidered professional standards. For more information, please contact Melanie Monteleone, EBI Project Director, at MMonteleone@WebEBI.com or 417-429-0081.
