AFA Announces New Regional Director
The Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors announces that Stan Sweeney, Assistant Director of the Reeve Memorial Union at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, has been appointed to serve as the Regional Director for Region IV, succeeding Tricia Fechter. In accordance with Association Bylaws (Article V, Section E, Number 3), Sweeney will serve as Region IV Director until December 2009.

 

2010 Leadership Elections

AFA voting members were recently sent an electronic ballot for the 2010 Leadership Elections. Voting will close at midnight (EDT) September 14. The slate of candidates includes the following individuals. Please take a moment to review each candidate's profile on the electronic ballot and submit your vote if you have not already. 2009 NHPW 5th Anniversary Resource Package - Sponsored by HPO & AFA
Join the Association and HazingPrevention.Org in celebrating the 5th Anniversary of National Hazing Prevention Week! A commemorative resource package will include:

  • Participation in 1 HPO-coordinated live virtual seminar
  • Participation in 1 AFA-coordinated live virtual seminar
  • Receipt of 1 HPO virtual seminar recording
  • Receipt of 1 AFA virtual seminar recording
  • Receipt of 1 HPO resource
  • Receipt of 1 AFA resource

A virtual chat will be scheduled with the presenters of both organizations' previously recorded virtual seminar, to allow purchasers of the package the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight on any relevant changes to the research since the time of recording. The complete package will be available for $175.

National Hazing Prevention Week
September 21-25


The Association is proud to be a sponsor of HazingPrevention.Org and the 2009 National Hazing Prevention Week. New resources are available this year including a Crucial Conversations guide for talking with students about hazing, and a NHPW Planning Guide. In addition, HazingPrevention.Org in partnership with Zeta Tau Alpha and the ZTA Foundation, is offering a new award to recognize campuses with innovative, comprehensive, year-round hazing prevention programming. Each year, the winning campus will receive a $10,000 cash prize to further their programming efforts. Deadline to apply is Nov. 15, 2009. Consider nominating a worthy colleague or student for the Hank Nuwer Anti-Hazing Hero Award or entering the NHPW Essay Contest. The deadline for both is September 28, 2009. Resource ordering and award applications are available on the HazingPrevention.Org website.

 

 

AFA Foundation Silent Auction 

The AFA Foundation Silent Auction will again be a part of the Annual Meeting in Jacksonville! All donations help the Foundation fund projects aimed at strengthening our profession, including research and professional development programs. The November 6th donation deadline is fast approaching! Go here for more information about donating items to the Silent Auction or the AFA Foundation.

 

2010 Volunteer Involvement Form

The 2010 Volunteer Involvement Form is available. Go to the Get Involved - Volunteer Opportunities section of the website to complete your 2010 Volunteer Involvement Form. Priority consideration is given to those individuals who complete the form by September 4. Be sure to read these tips before completing your form!

Oracle Call for Submissions

Submission Deadline | November 1


Oracle: The Research Journal of the Association of Fraternity Advisors is accepting articles for the February 2010 issue. While we have a rolling submission process, articles should be submitted by November 1 to be considered for the February issue.
