A Minute with the Board

Since the 2009 Annual Meeting in Jacksonville, there have been several inquiries from members about the follow-up by the AFA Executive Board regarding discussions held during the Business Meeting. The Board held conversations during our January conference call and is beginning to formalize a plan to respond to the concerns about the proposed Resolution on Interfraternal Umbrella Organizations’ Position Statements on Hazing that was presented for a vote. >>Read Kelly Jo Karnes' complete report

Annual Meeting Educational Programs Online
The 2009 Annual Meeting Planning Team was thrilled with the quality programs that were offered at the 2009 Annual Meeting and hopes you found them to be beneficial as well. If you were unable to attend the Annual Meeting, missed a program that sounded interesting, or simply misplaced your handouts, the materials from many of the Educational Programs are now available in AFA's Knowledge Center! Programs are organized by Core Competency. Thanks to our many wonderful presenters, you can continue your learning throughout the year.

If you presented at the Annual Meeting, but don't see your handouts online yet, please send them to the Central Office.

The First 90 Days Program | Coming Soon!
The First 90 Days Program is the premier educational program for first-time fraternity/sorority professionals. Developing an awareness of their role in the fraternal relevance landscape, building skills necessary for a successful transition and long-term career, and sharing knowledge that will lead to strong connections among peers and partners are the foundation of the First 90 Days Program. The 12-week program will complement the transition into a first, full-time campus role working with fraternities and sororities through a series of webinars, a peer-to-peer cohort experience, and guided learning and networking with AFA volunteers.

A First 90 Days Program registration would be the perfect graduation gift for a graduate student, professional development experience for a new hire, or resource for yourself as you begin a new position or new career. Registration will open March 1.

NASPA Annual Conference
AFA members attending the NASPA Annual Conference in Chicago this March will find several educational programs and other events related to fraternity and sorority life. Go here for a summary of those programs. As a partner for The Placement Exchange occurring March 3-7 on-site, AFA also wishes all participants much success. Visit AFA leadership in their table at The Placement Exchange and in Booth #617 in the NASPA Exhibit Hall.

AFA Membership Campaign
We have reached the mid-point of AFA's membership year, but it is not too late for you to benefit from referring new members. Through our Membership Incentive Program you can earn complimentary membership and Annual Meeting registration simply by encouraging others to join AFA. Michael Steele, Shelly Brown Dobek, and Carrie Smith Youell are among those who have already won membership for the 2010-2011 membership year...will you be next?
