The Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors provides individuals concerned with the fraternity/sorority movement an avenue for professional growth and development. AFA is a multifaceted international organization providing resources, recognition, and support for fraternity/sorority advising professionals.
AFA enhances its members' ability to create fraternity and sorority experiences that positively affect students, host institutions, and communities. Active membership in the Association provides invaluable opportunities for professional growth, interaction and networking with campus fraternity/sorority advisors, senior-level administrators and inter/national fraternity and sorority executives and volunteers on a local and regional level. Current members can now benefit from promoting AFA to others who have an interest in the fraternal movement.
AFA is the premier professional association for those individuals involved in higher education and the fraternity community. The Association assists professionals and all interested in fraternity/sorority life by providing opportunities for networking, discussion, education and professional development. Membership in AFA is considered a MUST!

Here are just a few ideas for promoting AFA:
- Include information about AFA in your next newsletter or email to the chapter advisors, faculty advisors, or house directors. These "front line" volunteers are sure to benefit from AFA's resources and services.
My membership has been a personal expense for me over the past five years as I am a volunteer advisor now, rather than a professional advisor. AFA keeps me on top of the latest issues, gives me research based validation for my efforts and positions, keeps me in touch with esteemed and respected colleagues, and speaks on my behalf regarding pertinent fraternity/sorority issues.
- Mindy Sopher, North Carolina State University
- Ask the Central Office to send you membership brochures for your next advisor meeting. Pass them out, explaining why you feel the Association can support their efforts.
- Encourage your supervisor to join AFA so he or she can learn more about the issues that you are facing.
- If there are other universities or inter/national headquarters in your town, make sure your colleagues there are AFA members. If they are not, explain to them why they should be.
- Teach your graduate students the importance of professional involvement - and support their membership in AFA.
- At the next conference you go to, collect business cards of people who could benefit from joining AFA. Share them with the Central Office to have membership packets sent to those individuals.
- Discuss AFA with your colleagues who indirectly work with fraternities and sororities on your campus, such as judicial affairs, residence life, leadership programs, etc. Share that AFA membership can provide them with insight valuable to their work with fraternity and sorority members.
My involvement with [AFA] remains an important and essential component for my professional development even though my direct responsibilities do not include advising fraternities and sororities.
- Tim Haskell, Director of First Year Programs, Santa Clara University
- Mention AFA to inter/national organization representatives when you have the opportunity to interact with them. Chapter consultants and regional volunteers may be unaware of the network AFA can provide.
- For inter/national organization staff members, request AFA membership brochures to include in your organization's volunteer training information. If you have found value in your AFA experience, imagine how much your regional and local volunteers could benefit!
- When you have a good experience working with a speaker or service provider, recommend that they become an Associate Member of AFA so others can learn about them as well.
AFA membership helps to keep me in touch with the folks on the "front lines:" the fraternity and sorority advisors on campuses around North America.
