2009 Volunteer Involvement Opportunities

AFA values the contributions of its many volunteers and encourages you to choose an area of interest and contribute your time and talents. Please take a few minutes to complete the 2009 Involvement Form and submit it online by September 5, 2008.

  

AFA Membership Renewal

Don't forget to renew your AFA membership! You must renew by August 15 to avoid a lapse in your membership. When you log onto our website and access the online membership form all of your contact and demographic information will pre-populate in the renewal form making it quick and easy for you to renew today. 

 

New Workgroup Forming - Volunteers Needed!
The Executive Board has approved the immediate formation of a workgroup to explore new opportunities for AFA members to connect, beyond their geographical locations. The Affinity Groups Workgroup will begin work very soon. Go here for more information about this opportunity to get involved in one of the Association's strategic initiatives.

 


AFA Comes to Facebook! 

The Association of Fraternity Advisors is proud to announce the creation of the AFA Facebook Group. All association members are encouraged to join this group as a means to (1) network and meet new professionals in the field, and (2) receive greater information and access to the resources and opportunities that AFA offers. Learn more this initiative and join the group today, as AFA continues to grow and develop with the changing world of technology.

 
Perspectives Call for Articles
Submission Deadline | August 15
The Perspectives Editorial Board is seeking articles for the Fall 2008 issue. In an effort to produce a timely and relevant publication, the Editorial Board will select a lead article for each issue based on current and relevant issues. In addition to the lead article, the Editorial Board seeks thoughtful and insightful articles on a variety of topics. Submissions are due for the fall issue by August 15, 2008.
 
Potential authors may want to consider topics such as values congruence, constructive judicial sanctioning, retention, collaborating with faculty, strategic planning, assessment, accreditation programs, commuter campuses, family involvement, ethical development, job search strategies, transitioning to a new job, building town-gown coalitions, developing technology skills, the change process, risk management standards, and partnering with alumni and inter/national organizations. This list is not exhaustive; articles on any topic relevant to fraternity/sorority advising are welcome.

AFA's First 90 Days Program

The program has begun, but it is not too late for new professionals to take advantage of this great opportunity.  Learn from seasoned professionals and network with others beginning their career in fraternity and sorority advising. Go here to learn more and register.

The August issue of College Panhellenics Conversations, the e-newsletter from the NPC College Panhellenics Committee, is now available.

Annual Meeting Graduate Staff

Application Deadline | August 31

Applications for the 2008 Annual Meeting Graduate Staff are available now on the AFA website. Graduate Staff members will support the overall Annual Meeting Planning Team in delivering an excellent event for attendees. If you are a second year Master's student (or enrolled in a one year Master's program) please consider applying for this opportunity. Details regarding the responsibilities, benefits, remuneration, the application, and selection process, can be found on the AFA website.  Applications must be received no later than Sunday, August 31, 2008.

 

Annual Meeting Volunteer Opportunities

Annual Meeting Scholarships

The AFA Foundation is pleased to offer several scholarships for members to attend the Annual Meeting. Annual Meeting attendees value the opportunity for professional development and networking, and the generosity of our donors makes it possible for more people to take advantage of those opportunities. Applications must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, September 2, 2008.

 

Annual Meeting Educational Program Selection Process
The Annual Meeting educational programs selection process is almost complete. Notification of selected programs and invitations for programs to address needs identified in the Call For Content will begin this week. Read more information about the educational program selection on the AFA website.


Professional Development on a Budget

The Virtual Seminar Series continues to offer great professional development opportunities at a reasonable cost for our members. This fall we will be hosting programming on coaching and life balance, a review of the upcoming AFA judicial resource, and building a fraternity/sorority village.
