Volunteer Fun Facts
Curious about who else is volunteering for AFA? We currently have 219 volunteers. Of those, 53 are in their first AFA volunteer role. Approximately 180 of our volunteers are Professional members; 15 are Affiliate members; 13 are Graduate students; three are Associate members; and one is a Retired member. Nine of our Past Presidents are still actively involved in the Association! We have over forty positions, committees, workgroups, or editorial boards.

Volunteer of the Month
Dave Conner
As a member of the Technology Workgroup, Dave Conner spearheaded the development of the Website Survey that will help AFA continue improving our website and other technology related resources and lead to educational tools to help AFA members become more familiar and comfortable with the tools and resources available on the website. Dave drafted the survey, sought feedback from several constituents, and led the promotion of the survey. Thanks to Dave's efforts this survey will provide invaluable information about the needs of AFA members. Thanks Dave!

Please contact the Central Office to recommend a Volunteer of the Month.

Progress and Priorities: Revisiting our Strategic Framework
It is hard to believe it has been eighteen months since AFA's strategic framework was developed. For those of us fortunate to be part of the deliberative process that led to its creation, we'd swear we just left the mind-bending conversations that both exhausted and exhilarated us. We have reached a point in the life cycle of the Strategic Plan where assessing our progress on short-term action items and revisiting (and possibly reprioritizing) projects are in order.

Did You Know... The Informed Volunteer
The AFA Name and Logo
Did you know that we have established guidelines for proper use of the AFA name and logo? Why on earth would we have such a thing? It is because the identity of the Association relies on the recognition and correct use of our name and logo. Here are a few quick DO’s and DON’T’s for you to make sure you are using the name and logo correctly in your work for the Association.

DO:

  • In the body of a document, abbreviate the Association of Fraternity Advisors to AFA
  • Capitalize “Association” if you are referring to the organization without the acronym (as in, “I volunteer for the Association.”)
  • Use the AFA logo – it’s easy and simple for you to replicate: it’s simply the letters “afa” together in lower case in the Times Roman BOLD type font (don’t forget to bold!)

DON’T:

  • Use the logo in a text line or with additional design elements (such as shading or graphics)
  • Use the logo in a line of text (“I love volunteering for afa!” while true as sentiment would be more appropriately documented as “I love volunteering for AFA!”)
  • Use the logo as a repetitive design element/graphic such as “afa afa afa afa

For more information and examples of appropriate usage, consult pages 10, 25, and 26 of the AFA Standard Operating Procedures Manual.

Website Survey - Help Us Help You!
Aren't you tired of pulling up that old email from your committee just so you can hit "reply all" to communicate with everyone? AFA can create a private forum on the Online Community that only the members of your committee can see! Make the website work for you! The possibilities for the new website are endless and we want to hear your ideas for making it even better.

The AFA Technology Workgroup is taking a critical look at ways to continually improve the Association's technology-related resources and wants to help you maximize your use of the new website, but we need to hear from you to make this happen. Please assist the Technology Workgroup by completing the Website Survey no later than February 28. Remember, one participant will be chosen at random to win a free virtual seminar. Go here to begin.
