2008 Leadership Nominations AFA is now accepting nominations for the 2008 elected leadership, so this is a great time to consider the contributions that you or others can make to the future of our Association. As those who comprise our volunteer ranks, we are depending on all of you to participate in the nominations process either by considering an office or recruiting qualified members to run for office. Our goal is to have a leadership team that reflects the diversity of the AFA membership, so we need your input to help accomplish that goal. >> Read article

Did You Know… The Informed Volunteer Renewing Your AFA Membership Anne Arseneau, Volunteer Coordinator
This month’s Informed Volunteer is NOT for those of you who always complete your “to do” list every day and have a desk that is always perfectly clean… it’s for the rest of us who might procrastinate a little more than is wise and tend to need one or two gentle nudges to get some things done.
Now is the time (if you haven’t already done so) to renew your AFA membership! Do it today! We all got that renewal form (more than) several weeks ago and as active volunteers we know the benefits of membership in AFA:
- Participation in a network of nearly 1,500 fraternity and sorority advising professionals working with over 600,000 collegiate members of men's and women's fraternities
- Full access to the AFA website, including an online discussion community, a searchable membership database, job placement services, past issues of our publications, a searchable Knowledge Center containing resources, models & samples, and much more
- Subscriptions to all AFA Publications
- Reduced member rates for all AFA resources
- Reduced member registration rates for the Annual Meeting and Virtual Seminars
- Volunteer opportunities on a state, regional or national level
You must be renewed by August 15th in order to avoid a lapse in your membership – and the ability to continue in your volunteer role. With vacations, leadership conferences, and the amount of time it can take to process invoices at some of our host institutions, that deadline will be here too soon. And from personal experience, it’s not fun when you’re not allowed to vote in AFA elections because your membership didn’t renew by the deadline (not my most proud volunteer moment…).
I’m renewing today… I hope you’ll take five minutes today as well to renew YOUR membership. We want and need you back as a volunteer next year!

Volunteers of the Month

Jason Bergeron serves on the Assessment Committee and has done an incredible job of committing himself to the fraternal values movement through his AFA volunteer role. Jason is currently researching the implementation of standards and accreditation programs, he is always quick to contribute to the committee, and he recently co-authored an article for Essentials on behalf of the commitee. This committee would not be as successful without Jason’s leadership. Thank you Jason!

The Perspectives Editor states, "Megan has dedicated extra time to work with authors to create relevant and appropriate pieces for sorority and fraternity advisors. Her attention to detail and constructive feedback increases the quality and reputation of our professional magazine. She truly is a valuable asset to an already talented Editorial Board." Thank you Megan!
