One Community, Multiple Approaches: Understanding and Appreciating Differences
Among Fraternity/Sorority Governing Councils
October 2005
Description
his Virtual Seminar explores the complexity of advising various councils (IFC, Multicultural, NPHC, Panhellenic) and discusses how fraternity and sorority professionals need to address each council’s unique needs, all while balancing their time and energy among the governing councils on their campus. Below are some of the questions that are addressed: How do you advise an entire community with one standard but different approaches? How can you effectively address the different needs and missions of various chapters and councils? When and how do you create a new council? How can you empower student leaders to recognize and accept differences, yet find common ground with chapters beyond their own council? What staffing models should be considered to best serve the various governing councils and member chapters?
