It’s More Than Just Property: Operations and Accountability within Facilities Management

This live virtual seminar includes web and telephone technology. The panelists will provide participants with the opportunity to learn more about facilities operations and programming opportunities that help to create a positive impact on the undergraduate experience.
 
The subject will be covered from the perspective of an inter/national organization, a campus fraternity/sorority advisor with university-owned properties and a campus fraternity/sorority advisor with privately-owned properties.

Topics covered include:

  • Facilities management and operations of university-owned properties
    • Highlights will include an overview of the Panhellenic Building and Fraternity Complex at the University of Central Missouri, as well as examples from numerous other university-owned facilities. Panelist will discuss residential assistants, judicial procedures, and the relationship with residence life/housing, as well as challenges faced, benefits received and partnerships needed within this housing structure.
    • Participants will receive ideas on how to develop a strong working relationship with the university office for housing and residential life. In addition, participants will learn how to avoid certain pitfalls as well as capitalize on opportunity during the development of this relationship.
  • Opportunities for programming and partnerships with house corporation-owned properties
    • Highlights will include an overview of the live-in Graduate Assistant program at Colorado State University. Panelist will provide information on the structure and development of this program, as well as challenges faced, benefits received, and partnerships created and needed within this program.
    • Participants will learn how to engage a variety of privately owned facilities into a unified program for the graduate live-in advisors, in addition to information on the training, development and collaborative opportunities available in a traditional, live-in house director program. Participants will also learn effective communication tools and how to develop a cooperative working relationship with corporation boards
  • Opportunities for facilities programming and the impact on membership development
    • Highlights will include an overview of the Residential Learning Communities (RLC) model developed by Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Panelist will discuss in detail the four components of the Residential Learning Community, as well as challenges faced, benefits received, and the partnerships required for the success of this program.
    • Participants will learn how to work with their Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter on developing an RLC, in addition to learning how a campus that does not have a Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter can implement portions of the Residential Learning Community model on their campus.

Meet the presenters:

  • Libby Anderson is the Assistant Director of Campus Activities for Greek Life the University of Central Missouri. In addition, Libby serves as the Director of Alumni Development for Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority and as served as a volunteer for the Association of Fraternity Advisors, the North-American Interfraternity Institute, and the Mid American Greek Council Association. Libby earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia and received a Master of Science degree at Indiana State University. Prior to Central Missouri, Libby was the Director of Greek Life at Mount Union College.
  • Mark Koepsell is the Director of Greek Life at Colorado State University and is the incoming Executive Director for the Mid-American Greek Council Association. In addition, Mark serves as a coordinator for the MGCA National House Directors Conference and as the Associate Executive Director of the Western Regional Greek Association. Mark received his Bachelor of Science degree at Carroll College and earned a Master of Science degree at Eastern Illinois University. Previously, Mark was the Assistant Director of the University Center at Millikin University and the Assistant Director of Student Life at Saint Louis University.
  • Brian C. Warren, Jr. is the Director of Learning Communities for Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Through this position, Brian is currently developing Residential Learning Communities at Cornell University, Lehigh University, North Carolina State University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the University of Richmond, and the University of South Carolina. Brian attended the University of Virginia where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Affairs. Prior to his current position, he served two years as a Regional Director for Sigma Phi Epsilon.
