Values Congruence – The Conversation Continues

This seminar is designed to enable professionals and volunteers to move forward with the values movement on their campuses and within their organizations. Participants will hear first hand testimony from campus professionals who have made substantial progress on their campus. Participants will also hear from Inter/National organizations that have successfully implemented values based programming within their organization. Participants will also be provided details on resources and application methods available to enhance the values movement from any perspective.
Topics covered include:
- Advancing the values movement within the campus community
- Highlights will include a summary of the Standards of Excellence program at The Ohio State University, as well as an overview of the structure, development and assessment of this program. Panelist will also discuss the progression and outcome of this program and the impact that has been made at the undergraduate chapter level.
- Participants will receive applicable ideas and suggestions for developing or enhancing a standards program that is reflective and supportive of the values congruence movement.
- Advancing the values movement through alumni and volunteer support
- Highlights will include an overview of the Alumni Values Institute at Indiana University. Panelist will provide information on the structure and development of this program, in addition to the outcomes of the inaugural Summer session. Panelist will discuss the importance of such a program and the desired impact for undergraduate chapter volunteers and alumni.
- Participants will be provided applicable ideas and suggestions for developing alumni-based and volunteer-based training that is reflective and supportive of the values congruence movement and in turn supports the values movement at the undergraduate level.
- Advancing the values movement at the chapter level through membership development initiatives
- Highlights will include an overview of the Leading with Values Membership Development Program developed by Pi Beta Phi. Panelist will discuss in detail the four components of the Leading with Values program, as well as be provided guidance and recommendations for the creation and application of a membership development program.
- Participants will learn how to assist and support their Pi Beta Phi chapter within the context of their membership development program, in addition to learning how to implement a similar program at the Inter/National level.
- Discovering and utilizing resources that will aid in the advancement of the values movement
- Highlights will include an overview of The Leadership Institute – Women with Purpose, Inc. training and development organization. Panelist will discuss in detail the values based decision making resources offered by this organization.
- Participants will discover and be provided information on how to apply this no cost resource to new or already existing values based initiatives and programming.
Presenters
Kurt Foriska, Assistant Director for the Ohio Union at The Ohio State University. Kurt has spent the previous four years as the Coordinator and Sr. Coordinator of Greek Life working with the Standards of Excellence program, a set of minimum expectations for sororities and fraternities at The Ohio State University. Kurt is currently serving the Association of Fraternity Advisors as the Perspectives Editor. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Allegheny College and a Masters of Arts from Bowling Green State University.
Ellen Shertzer, Greek Alumni Coordinator in the Student Activities Office at Indiana University. Ellen works part-time as the staff liaison to fraternity and sorority alumni. Previously, she has served as the Assistant Director of the Iowa State Alumni Association and the Fraternity and Sorority Advisor at the University of Maryland College Park. Ellen earned a B.A. in Public Communication and Human Relations from Western Illinois University and a M.S. in Higher Education Administration from Iowa State University. She is a volunteer for Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.
Oriana Bertucci, Director of Member Services for Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, located in Town & Country, MO. Previously, she was a traveling Consultant for Pi Beta Phi, visiting college campuses across the country, providing leadership development, recruitment guidance and financial training. Oriana graduated with a degree in International Development and French from the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
Colleen Coffey, Program Manager for The Leadership Institute – Women with Purpose, Inc. Colleen has been actively involved in sorority life having served the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority in several capacities on the national and local level. She is currently the chapter advisor for the Delta Eta Chapter of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority at Belmont University. She has an MS in College Student Affairs from Eastern Illinois University and a BSW from Belmont University.
