ADDIE: The Principles of Professional Curriculum Design
May 20, 2009

Description
Fraternity and sorority professionals design curriculum almost every day.  Despite being a basic expectation of the job, few of us have ever received formal training on how to do it effectively.  Fortunately, the training and development industry has institutionalized a few basic principles that offer many simple ways to dramatically improve the impact of every program.

ADDIE is the standard, professional model for selecting and creating powerful learning experiences.

Fraternity/sorority professionals can translate the same lessons from the workplace to the campus in order to:
  • Provide relevant and engaging experiences
  • Ensure that learners actually learn
  • Diagnose and correct flaws in existing programs
  • Show peers and superiors how to do data-driven education
  • Avoid “death by PowerPoint”
Attend the May installment of the Virtual Seminar Series to develop this valuable skill.  Following their own lessons, the presenters will teach you the ADDIE framework, coach you how to apply it and discuss its implications in the profession.  Leave the program with a checklist for improving curriculum and your very own professionally developed program!

Learning outcomes for this Virtual Seminar Series will include, but are not limited to:
  • Participants will recite and describe the core elements of the ADDIE model
  • Participants will be able to demonstrate competence using ADDIE to re/design an educational program
  • Participants will discuss the implications of ADDIE in other areas of their work
Presenters
Dan Wrona is the CEO & Project Leader for RISE Partnerships, a company that provides leadership skills training to college fraternities and sororities. In nearly a decade with RISE, he has delivered more than 200 custom-designed educational programs on campuses nationwide. Dan applies lessons learned from his B.S. in Neuroscience, Masters in Business Administration and membership in the American Society for Training and Development to intentionally design each new learning experience.

Mandi is a member of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA), the Fraternity Executives Association (FEA), and serves on the Board of Directors for HazingPrevention.Org. Mandi is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, IN and earned her Master’s Degree in Executive Human Resource Development at Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. During her graduate work Mandi studied the ADDIE model extensively and continues to utilize its theory in practice when creating and researching curriculum and other programs.
